about

I wrote these lyrics at a time where I was pursuing anarchy, on an ideological sense, much more. I was really into street art and Borfism and all that good stuff. There was a tag on a mailbox somewhere in Washington, DC that stated, "Break What Breaks Your Heart... - Borf," and it really stayed with me. I had recently turned 20 and was horribly depressed at the notion that I was slowly but surely growing up and I guess I wanted to attack anyone and anything that ensures that growing up is in fact a bad thing. I wanted to rebel. I was listening to a lot of Andrew Jackson Jihad (Oh name drops what WHAT?!). This song is for Brian Mckenzie, a kid I never met.

Right before the breakdown really lets loose our friend Dan had an AWESOME backing vocal part. You can still faintly hear it but it really got lost in the file conversion. I'm really bummed about that. I think the better version is on archive.org somewhere.

lyrics

lyrics:

Parents, teachers, politicians installed an image in my head. You can be what you want to be. Just serve the economy. Waking from delusion we feel powerless we wish that we were dead. I’m so sick of life. I just want to die. American dream, it is not for me. It leaves me with apathy. From you I’ll get no sympathy. They don’t fucking care, because they never feel this way. They don’t know what it’s like to feel useless every single day.

They profit off our misery and stifle creativity. Abusive culture condones silence while they plot out their conspiratorial violence. Instead of fight we tear ourselves apart. I’ve been told to break what breaks your heart.

Parents, teachers, politicians preachers their voices resonate inside my head. You can be what you want to be. Just serve the economy. Working for their empire we’re powerless we wish that we were dead. I’m so sick of life. I just want to die. Teenage bodies swing from basement ceiling pipes. We mean nothing to them just one less resistor lost to strife. If children are the future, then maybe you can tell me why so many feel there’s nothing to look forward to they want to die.

They profit off our misery and stifle creativity. For too long we’ve sat alone in silence while they’ve plotted out their conspiratorial violence. Let’s all tear their precious lives apart. I say you should break what breaks your heart.

We’ll deface your oppressive infrastructures. We’ll wash out your countless lies. Twenty years ago you promised me the world but you never told me that I would have to compromise. Everything that makes me breath my entire identity. That you bastards stole from me the fucking day I turned twenty. Now I know it’s childish. I know that you’ll poke holes in it but now it’s my prerogative to break what ever breaks my heart. Break what breaks your heart.
